Philosophy & Education

What matters more in life is having something that really interests you.
Prof. Dr. Julian Nida-Rümelin

On philosophy, education policy, and the role of schools.

Prof. Dr. Julian Nida-Rümelin is a philosopher who runs the Humanistische Hochschule Berlin and sits on the board of a research institute for digital transformation; he writes his books deliberately for a wider readership too. He studied physics and philosophy and was originally heading for a physics career; in the 1990s he was Munich's cultural commissioner and later federal minister of state for culture. He comes from a family of artists — sculptor father, sculptor grandfather, painter grandmother — and argues that a good life path has less to do with chasing career openings than with figuring out what genuinely interests you.
