Dennis Forbes started Schulcast in 2018 together with Alex Schoof at Berufliche Schule St. Pauli (BS11) in Hamburg. The idea: let students behind the mic, give them real responsibility, publish for real.
Working on the African continent was always his dream. When he joined the German International School Johannesburg, Schulcast came with him. He teaches German as a foreign language and as a mother tongue — and alongside the teaching, the project grew into something bigger. Guest interviews, coverage of the school olympiad, reports, audio dramas, and above all: students realising that what they have to say matters.
Every Monday, Dennis runs the Schulcast AG. This is where the foundations are built: storytelling, technical skills, the craft of journalism. Not because everyone should become a journalist — but because young people deserve to be taken seriously. And they deserve the tools to tell their own stories.
In 2026, Dennis is handing editorial leadership to students. Not because he's stopping — because it's time. His role now: opening doors, building structures, standing by in the background. Growing the next generation. And letting go when it counts.
